About this artwork
In this piece, I explored the tension between structure and fluidity through bold shapes and dynamic color contrasts. Using acrylics, I aimed to capture movement and emotion, inviting viewers to find their own meanings within the abstract forms. This painting brings a vibrant, thoughtful energy to any space, inspiring curiosity and deeper reflection on the invisible forces that shape our lives.
The artwork is an abstract composition featuring a… variety of geometric shapes and forms. It showcases a mix of bold black lines contrasting with softer pastel shades of blue, red, orange, and yellow. The composition is dynamic, with intersecting lines and overlapping shapes creating a sense of movement. The painting includes elements like triangles, rectangles, and circular shapes, each outlined or filled with different colors, adding depth and complexity to the piece.
Stephen Lucas is a contemporary painter trained at Ventura College and McCrady Fine Art School, with a deep apprenticeship under Wesley E. Johnson. He masterfully blends dynamic abstract expressionism with vibrant color blocks, thick black outlines, and improvisational, intuitive mark-making, evoking stained-glass brilliance and Cubist fragmentation. His style is non-figurative, inviting viewers into a spiritual, private communion, where each painting resonates with a profound sense of freedom, possibility, and emotional self-discovery. Lucas’s art serves as a key, unlocking deep personal truths and unseen emotions within the beholder.
