About this artwork
All the pieces in this series are attempts to depict a "universe of mind and spirit", as I envision it. To me, the large face and the various figures represent different levels of higher intelligence in the universe. The large face is derived from a mannequin head I acquired from a J.C. Penney store that was going out of business in Moscow, Idaho while I was in graduate school. It has shown up off and on in my work for decades.

Credentials
- Experienced Artist
« The artist doesn’t paint what he sees, he paints what he wants the viewer to see. »
Stephen Mauldin is an American artist whose paintings have been widely exhibited in the United States. Throughout the years, he has made it a habit to play with paint, in order to learn more about what it is both capable of and not capable of doing. This experimentation lead Mauldin to invent techniques involving painting on glass and transferring that paint to canvas, modifying syringes to produce webbed compositions, and, most recently, to sling small quantities of paint onto canvas at high speed. The defining characteristic of marks made in this manner is electric energy, however, the incredibly fine nature of the mark is also striking.
