About this artwork
Original painting of a couple of swimmers, framed by a crumbling stone archway, in the sparkling blue sea at Rovinj, Croatia. It is painted on canvas panel.
The painting is framed in a narrow wood frame, as pictured. The frame is a repurposed frame, and has a couple of small imprefections, but these aren't noticable from any distance, and don't detract from the painting.

Stephen Mitchell draws upon symbolist and tonalist influences, using mixed-media techniques to reflect his rich background in storybook illustrations. His style is characterized by spontaneous brushwork and textural layering, adding materials like torn paper and sand, crafting paintings with an organic sense of history. His works evoke an ethereal and melancholic atmosphere, connecting viewers to unseen, poetic realms through visual storytelling.
