About this artwork
This is an original painting of The Devils Frying Pan, just along the coastal path from Cadgwith, Cornwall. It was formed when a sea cave collapsed, leaving just the arch. When the weather is especially rough, the sea appears to be bubbling and boiling, which is how it got its name
It is painted on canvas panel, and is framed in a deep profile, black wooden frame, ready to hang.

Stephen Mitchell draws upon symbolist and tonalist influences, using mixed-media techniques to reflect his rich background in storybook illustrations. His style is characterized by spontaneous brushwork and textural layering, adding materials like torn paper and sand, crafting paintings with an organic sense of history. His works evoke an ethereal and melancholic atmosphere, connecting viewers to unseen, poetic realms through visual storytelling.
