About this artwork
The Mad River is actually the name of the river, it's not angry. The Indigenous people called it the Mad River because it flows north which is unusual for most rivers. This is in the Mad River Valley in the towns of Waitsfield and Warren in central Vermont.
Painted in 2018, this acrylic on a 3/4" wood panel measures 16" high by 20" wide. It's unframed with the edge of the panel showing some of paint from the front, and the natural wood support slightly… darkened with a glaze. This can be seen from the side view photos. This adds an immediacy and freshness to the painting, showing a little bit of the working process. Please look at the images carefully. This is painted very loosely with quick brushstrokes in a painterly manner with texture. It has a glossy sheen as shown in the side view photos.
« I’m attracted to items built or left by others that weren’t intended to be objects to contemplate. I want to be to art what Robert Frost is to poetry. »
