About this artwork
“Stratify” is a followup piece to the "Wearing to Travel" series exploring new works on polyester. It has multiple meanings, personally my desire to travel the world with my art. Physically the wear of the oxidation on the fabric is achieved by rubbing onto large sheet metal. Stratify also embraces the arrangement pattern created with multiple layers of rusted metal bars.

Stephen Rybacki, a determined drawer turned painter, makes bold impressions by mastering the interplay of metal and time. Working with hardwood panels, he uses plaster, acrylic, and found objects to achieve textural depth, and recently, fabric and canvas enhance his vision. Harnessing rust as art, Rybacki's pieces force viewers to confront time's relentless march—its sublime decay rubbing shoulders with beauty-in-ageing.
