Red squirrels are typically found in large pine forests and other types of woodland.
They are predated by polecats, pine martens, wildcats, some owls and goshawks.
The red squirrel population has declined steadily since the introduction of the grey squirrel by the Victorians, in both its range and size.
This painting is unashamedly large and up close to bring a literal large focus on the beauty and struggle that these animals are facing in the… wild. A struggle that will only intensify if we continue to sacrifice our biosphere for short-term, unsustainable models of economic profit.
