About this artwork
In the first instance, I created Aphrodite by applying an underpainting of glue (my Gloil process). The thickness of the glue depended on where I was on the painting. For example, the nose projects out the most so it required more glue carefully shaped in the form of Aphrodite's nose. The white squares also required added thickness.
Aphrodite is only one of many paintings of the Greek Gods. I fashioned her after the beautiful actress Grace Jones.
