About this artwork
This is Stevens first paired piece. Cut from a single piece of cherry that a gardener friend gave him many years ago and a single piece of traditionally fusion welded Mokume Gane. He decided to try a new technique, of electroplating a layer of nickel over the copper, using heat to achieve colours which wouldn't stay well on copper alone when waxed. The centres were scrubbed back to bare metal about twenty times before the final colour was chosen.
