The beauty in natural forms and preciousness of discarded objects: The organisms that removed the centre of this log, cell by cell, did so leaving the sapling that once stood at the heart of what became a huge tree. An old, bent, aluminum road sign and a sheet of clad from a dead caravan were used to in lay the checks in the timber and beat leaf for the heartwood.

Steven Whiffen is an experienced sculptor from New Zealand with international exposure. His work is focused on representing the perfection and preciousness of life. With each piece, Whiffen seeks to transmit a sense of wonder, and does so through ambitious sculptural techniques such as Mokume Gane. His overall body of work delicately balances order and chaos.
