Few great thinkers have clearly stated that in both love and war, two sides always contend in permanent disparity. One is always superior to the other in strength or strategy, or both. They are rarely, if ever, equal. In war, such disproportion is admitted. In love, however, this contrast becomes a paradox, where the lover is the most fragile, and the loved one the strongest, when it should be the other way around. Thus, the beauty emanating from… such a pure feeling ends up being questionable, to such an extent that the line dividing the suffering of not being reciprocated in love from what is supposed to be the complete happiness of loving dissolves into a banal and primal instinct of survival. The unpleasant-looking creature surrenders itself entirely to the beauty of the indifferent being, and for a few moments it is difficult to recognize where beauty resides and where repulsiveness.
Sua Guerra, trained at the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts in Cuba, has worked in metal, wood, and marble sculpture, pyrography, drawing, and installations for over 20 years. He uses realist, surrealist, and hyperrealist techniques, influenced by magical realism, with remarkable virtuosity in detail and execution. His works explore philosophy, psychology, literature, and mythology, and convey profound emotions such as rebellion, human cruelty, and the confrontation between reality and the mask, generating an intense and cathartic experience of reflection in the viewer.
