About this artwork
Often when I start painting, I have no concrete idea about the finished work, even less about the title of a work. However, while doing this little work, the city of Jerusalem immediately came to mind. I was there once and found the colorful diversity of peoples very exciting.
Sultana Savvi is a contemporary painter whose work explores the atmospheric and emotional presence of landscape. Moving between abstraction and memory, her paintings focus on horizon, space, and color as carriers of mood and perception. Working in layered processes, she creates quiet, open compositions that invite contemplation and personal interpretation.
Her work is influenced by still observation and transitional states between presence and distance. Through painting, she translates subtle inner experiences into color and spatial atmosphere.
Born in Greece, Savvi lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Art Education from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and a Master's degree from Zurich University of Teacher Education. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions over several years. Numerous works are held in private collections and institutions.
