About this artwork
"ISHTAR THE GREATEST OF THE GODS"
I am the daughter of the Moon and sister of the Sun
I am the Queen of Heaven and War.
Lady of struggles and battles
the earth trembles before me
Queen of all souls
Without me, love doesn't exist and sex is forgotten.
If you conquer me you own me, but I belong to no one
They long for me and desire me, they have an endless hunger for me, since no one has ever held me, since I am covered by the shadow of the… Circle of Stars and the shadow of the morning clouds.
I am deflowered and yet always a virgin, I sanctify and am not sanctified at all.
I am the lioness who makes the earth green again
At my death nothing is born and at my rebirth everything grows
I am the one who gives life, who nourishes and gives death
The Lady of the Peoples
THE GREATEST OF THE GODS
Susanna Gatto, a Venetian painter, trained at an art school and studied fabric, glass, and watercolor, honing her mastery of color. Her works are distinguished by intense symbolism and surreal lyricism, using a technique that places color at the center of attention. The color choice isn't decorative. It's deliberate, sharp, radical. Red pulsates. Blue retreats. Black whispers. Each hue is a critical gesture, an act of subtraction or revelation. It is painting as a political act of feeling. The work does not propose, but questions. It does not show, but invokes. And whoever looks does not remain a spectator, but enters into play as a sensitive and disarmed body. It's no longer a matter of understanding. It's a matter of feeling precisely.
