About this artwork
"Fragments of Sky" features an abstract composition with strong contrasts between dark and light color areas. The lower part of the painting is characterized by a dense, textured, dark surface reminiscent of earth, stone, or burnt matter.
In the upper half of the picture, light layers of white, gray, and turquoise break through—irregularly distributed, like individual fragments. These turquoise accents appear like reflections of light from the… sky, preserved in the darkness.
The structure and composition create a sense of depth, movement and transition.
In "Fragments of Sky," the bright color areas, reminiscent of the sky and light, contrast with the heaviness of the dark base and give the painting a hopeful, open dimension. The surface is tactile through the use of sand and is reminiscent of the elements of nature.
