About this artwork
In my work "Colors in Motion," I explore the effect of geometric shapes combined with vibrant colors. Rectangles and squares dominate the composition, yet they are not rigid—they dance, move, emerge, or recede. This play with space and depth creates a visual dynamism for me that lets the eye wander. I work with layers, applying color and then removing it again—this creates vibrant textures. The green and turquoise tones radiate calm, while orange…
and violet set targeted accents and create tension. Despite the strict formal language, I sense a gentle, almost musical movement in the painting—a rhythm of structure and freedom. With "Colors in Motion," I want to show how clarity creates vibrancy, how order and emotion do not exclude but complement each other.

Susanne Dowden, born in 1966 in Bad Salzuflen, dared to make a bold new start in art after a successful career in business. After working as a hairdresser, industrial clerk, and managing director, she found her true passion in painting in 2020. Her intensive exploration of acrylic paints opened up a new way of expression for her – free, spontaneous, and powerful. In her studio in Emsland, she combines gestural abstraction with geometric clarity. Her works reflect a turbulent biography, characterized by change, new beginnings, and creative freedom.
