About this artwork
2016 was the year of the monkey in the Chinese horoscope. This, combined with the trip to Africa that Susanne Haun faced, was the reason for the monkey the artist drew. Contrary to their usual habits Haun drew the monkey in the old technique of Chinese ink painting, but interpreted the subject in their own way. The format is 50 x 70 cm for a drawing quite large and leaves the viewer face to face with the monkey , On the additional photo, the size…
of the drawing is clearly visible in comparison to the artist.
Did they notice? The monkey lacks an ear, Haun has one of the three monkeys - not see, hear, speak - taken out.
Susanne uses high-quality watercolor cardboard from Hahnemühle and light-resistant anti-ink from Rohrer for her work.
The work is framed under glass with white wooden strip and passpartout in the size 60 x 80 cm.

Susanne Haun is a multi-disciplinary German artist whose work has featured extensively in exhibitions around the country, and is additionally held in national public collections. She takes a minimalist approach to each drawing and painting, and harnesses inspiration from nature to immediately envision specific lines and surfaces. Trained in Chinese ink painting, she incorporates monochrome colour palettes and interplays between brush and feather to compose soft, intriguing works that marry mythology and material.
