About this artwork
This semi-abstract figurative painting speaks to the transitional, unfinished quality of the piece. The figure is emerging or dissolving, caught between stages of being. The rendering of the upper body fades into sketch, suggesting vulnerability, introspection and the liminal space between thought and form.
I enjoyed painting this series, as the fusion between realism and abstraction offers a sense of freedom. I feel the contrast allows me to… make expressive choices and I enjoy leaving the sketchy unfinished work showing through.
