About this artwork
“A Smart and Slightly Strange Friend” is a tender symbolic painting about love, care, trust, and the emotional bond we form with the objects that accompany us through childhood. At the center of the story is a funny, slightly awkward toy bear — just like the one I had as a child, whose scent I still remember.
Many of us know this childhood memory: the moment when a toy becomes something more than just an object. It appears as a friend, a quiet companion,… and a partner in discovering the world.
Later, the toy becomes a guardian of childhood memories — memories of the first experience of true, even if imaginary, friendship.
This friend joined us in our games, but in fact, it also protected our imagination and helped us explore life with curiosity and openness. I wanted to find the image of a toy bear that would be funny, slightly absurd, touching, and at the same time wise — as if it carried its own inner knowledge.
