Born in 1986 in Toulouse, Sylvain Gautier discovered woodworking in his father's workshop. After studying multimedia, he worked as a freelance graphic designer. In 2013, he traveled across Asia and Oceania. In Polynesia, an encounter with humpback whales marked a turning point in his career. Returning to France in 2018, he trained as a cabinetmaker in Revel, then joined the team at “La Machine” in Nantes to participate in the creation of the “Dragon de Calais”. Inspired by these creations, he taught himself wood carving and created his first automaton. His artistic universe is populated by marine creatures, symbols of his fascination with the ocean. He documents his creations in video and photos, sharing his meticulous and poetic approach. A passionate and committed diver, he actively supports the preservation of marine ecosystems.
