About this artwork
Like an ancient brazier holding hot coals, this Egyptian Onyx glows with a soft light, making cold stone seem warm and inviting. Braziers have been dated back to 824 BC and are still used today for a variety of ceremonial rituals spanning many cultures, from lighting the Paschal Candle during the Easter Vigil to the Japanese tea ritual of Obon Temae.

« I aspire to create sculpture that is pleasing to sight and touch. With all the tragedy in the world I would like to give people joy, hope and beauty. »
T. Barny is a nationally-distinguished sculptor from the United States. Working with various kinds of stone, Barny creates fluid, organic figures. Much like a Mobius Strip, his sculptures almost universally incorporate one, continuous edge. Barny's artworks place the beauty of his medium-polished, fine stone-at center stage, inviting the viewer to enjoy the work visually as well as through touch.
