This vibrant self-portrait reinterprets the psychological intensity and spatial compression of Max Beckmann’s self-portraits through a contemporary, luminous lens. My likeness sits in quiet self-possession, framed by a bold, abstracted interior where a deep-violet cat rests on my lap—its form painted in fluid, energetic strokes of purples that contrast the radiant palette surrounding us.
The composition glows with yellows, oranges, blues, pinks,… and greens, evoking both the emotional weight of introspection and a defiant optimism. The tilted perspective, flattened space, and saturated color pay homage to Beckmann’s expressive distortions while infusing my own voice—rooted in Central European sensibility and personal narrative.
Executed in lighter oil layers that emphasize movement and emotional immediacy, the painting becomes a meditation on solitude, inner strength, companionship (even with an enigmatic violet cat), and the enduring act of confronting oneself through paint.
