About this artwork
In my achromatic works Alienation and Limitless I show a new aspect of my work.
A consistent condensation of form and structure, with the fan shape in shades of grey mediating between the white light area and the black shadow area. Due to the juxtaposition of the diagonally divided background, whose paint application is flat, almost without brush marks and thus forms a surface that is impenetrable to the eye, and the organically curved fan shape… with brush marks left visible and a painterly colour gradient, the composition achieves a dynamic that radiates a powerful energy, despite the strong reduction in colour. This energy concentrates the gaze on the swing of the form and leads it over the background through the picture space from the picture into the room.
The painter Tanja Guntrum invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the complexity of her works, to perceive and decipher the invisible behind the obvious. The flexible structures, which seem to be constantly in motion, always reveal a new aspect or thought and ultimately what makes us unique as people. In her multi-layered acrylic paintings, she uses a spatula and soft brush to create a dynamic contrast between hard lines and the background with its gentle transitions. In order not to get lost in the multidimensionality of the paintings, a metallic shimmer can often be found in them, which is intended to symbolize the aspect of universal hope.
