About this artwork
“BENEATH” (2024) explores the fine line between visibility and obscurity. A face hesitantly emerges from the white, textured surface, as if time and memory have left their mark on both the subject and the medium. The worn, almost fossil-like quality of the features creates an unsettling tension—what lies beneath remains partially hidden, inviting silent contemplation.
The use of a heavily textured surface, combined with subtle contrasts of light… and shadow, emphasizes the beauty of imperfection and decay. This work is inspired by themes of identity, erosion and the weight of what remains unseen. BENEATH speaks to the silent strength that exists in vulnerability and the process of being revealed over time.
The monochromatic tones amplify the meditative quality of the work, offering the viewer a space to reflect and interpret the multiple layers, both visible and perceived.
