About this artwork
“HOPE” (2024) is a mixed-media painting that explores the fragility and resilience of the human spirit. Emerging from a textured darkness, delicate hands and a contemplative face symbolize vulnerability and quiet strength. The upper portion of the canvas, full of cracks and textures, represents time, decay, and transformation—and yet dissolves into hope, as if light is breaking through the darkness.
The juxtaposition of darkness and light, roughness… and softness, creates a deep tension, reflecting the subtle balance between despair and optimism. The hands, rendered with a softness that contrasts with the surrounding rough texture, invite the viewer to pause and reflect on the themes of survival, emotion and renewal.
I chose mixed media to achieve layers of depth and texture, allowing the surface to tell its own narrative alongside the figure.
