Details of the work
Technique: Watercolor, India ink on paper
Framing: Under glass
Presentation: Framed artwork
Dimensions: 43 x 33 cm
About the work
Four Valencia oranges rest on a wooden surface in a simple yet vibrant composition, where the eye is drawn to both the subject and the energy of the brushstrokes. India ink creates nervous, spontaneous, and expressive contours, while watercolor adds transparency, light, and a chromatic intensity… that makes the orange hues explode on the paper.
Far from seeking a rigid or academic representation, the work captures a lively and loose impression of the still life. The splashes, empty spaces, and stains expand the image beyond the fruit, suggesting freshness, naturalness, and movement. The dark leaves and earthy tones of the table balance the composition and reinforce its Mediterranean character.
It is a piece that celebrates the beauty of the everyday through a gestural and contemporary language

« I wonder about who I have believed to be brilliant, talented and sensational; the real question is: who have I believed myself not to be? »
Jordi Machí is a distinguished Spanish painter who has received national recognition and wide press coverage. His paintings showcase a twist on the traditional portrait, applying chaotic mixes of colour and line in the place of figurative faces, and his overall artistic aesthetic appears both beautiful and provocative. Machí seeks to encourage the viewer to look beyond the physical and embrace the freedom of individuality.
