About this artwork

Silent Northern Drift is a textured abstract landscape built through layered horizontal movement and restrained, earthy tones. The composition unfolds in bands of deep graphite, muted blue-grey, sand, and warm ochre, creating a quiet dialogue between sky and land.
Multiple layers of paint are applied and partially revealed, allowing underlying tones to emerge through scraping and controlled abrasion. This process creates a sense of depth and subtle… motion, as if the surface carries traces of wind, erosion, and passing time. The horizontal structure stabilizes the composition while the broken textures introduce tension and visual rhythm.
The palette is intentionally limited and natural, balancing cool atmospheric greys with grounded, mineral warmth. The result is a contemplative, meditative work that evokes open horizons without describing a specific place.

My path into art was not traditional. I came to painting after a successful career in biology, where I earned a Ph.D. in veterinary virology and microbiology. This background continues to shape my approach — through structure, layering and attention to detail.
My work focuses on layered abstraction, where color, texture and gesture create depth and movement. Rather than depicting specific subjects, I build compositions that evolve through accumulation and subtle shifts.
I was born in Central Asia and now live in Norway. This contrast informs my palette: warmth and density balanced with calm, light and space. My paintings often combine these qualities, creating works that feel both grounded and atmospheric.
My paintings are designed to function within interiors, bringing structure, color balance and quiet movement.
Painting, for me, is a way to sustain a state of attention rather than to describe.
