About this artwork
The Call of Turquoise is a meditation on memory, belonging, and light.
It unfolds like a quiet horizon where movement slows into awareness.
The color is not merely seen but felt — turquoise becomes both water and air, vibration and stillness.
Every layer carries traces of time, revealing how presence and distance coexist within one breath.
Painted on a premium Winsor & Newton canvas, known for its fine texture and archival quality.
Finished with… a satin varnish that enhances depth and protects the surface.
Mounted on a solid professional stretcher frame, ensuring stability and elegant presentation.
My path into art was not traditional. I came to painting after a successful career in biology, where I earned a Ph.D. in veterinary virology and microbiology. This background continues to shape my approach — through structure, layering and attention to detail. My work focuses on layered abstraction, where color, texture and gesture create depth and movement. Rather than depicting specific subjects, I build compositions that evolve through accumulation and subtle shifts. I was born in Central Asia and now live in Norway. This contrast informs my palette: warmth and density balanced with calm, light and space. My paintings often combine these qualities, creating works that feel both grounded and atmospheric. My paintings are designed to function within interiors, bringing structure, color balance and quiet movement. Painting, for me, is a way to sustain a state of attention rather than to describe.
