About this artwork
Vivid Impressions was inspired by those moments that stay with us long after they have passed. Fleeting colors, warm light, fragments of places, conversations, landscapes and emotions gradually settle in memory and become part of our inner world.
I rarely paint a specific scene. Instead, I work with accumulated sensations and impressions, allowing them to emerge intuitively through layers of color, texture and gesture. In this painting, vibrant reds,… soft pinks and muted greens come together as traces of experiences that remain vivid, carrying a sense of warmth, joy and emotional abundance.
This work invites the viewer to reconnect with their own memorable moments and to experience the beauty of impressions that continue to live within us.
The painting is presented in a floating silver frame, which is included with the artwork and forms an integral part of its final appearance. The painting is coated with satin varnish for protection.
My path into art was not traditional. I came to painting after a successful career in biology, where I earned a Ph.D. in veterinary virology and microbiology. This background continues to shape my approach — through structure, layering and attention to detail. My work focuses on layered abstraction, where color, texture and gesture create depth and movement. Rather than depicting specific subjects, I build compositions that evolve through accumulation and subtle shifts. I was born in Central Asia and now live in Norway. This contrast informs my palette: warmth and density balanced with calm, light and space. My paintings often combine these qualities, creating works that feel both grounded and atmospheric. My paintings are designed to function within interiors, bringing structure, color balance and quiet movement. Painting, for me, is a way to sustain a state of attention rather than to describe.
