About this artwork
Theoretically speaking, the smashed glass in these works questions the notion of what art is. At least that was my intention. I have purposely made the work clean and easy on the eye and familiar, however the very fact that the glass in a frame is a traditional sense of presentation and is now being displayed smashed, cracked and broken, comments on the fragility of art, the aesthetic norms of art of what is beautiful and tragic. It also gives a…
sense of “somethings not what I am used to here.” Which is good for me as a creator, as it provokes the viewer into looking at it closer and with scrutiny and perhaps some discussion. The “broken-ness” has its own beautiful, unpredictable quality of reflections that distorts and changes the work beneath. Imperfection is sometimes the reality of beauty.

« I believe in hard work and through the process of hard work, one becomes more enlightened and closer to the truth. »
Tay Dall is an established South African painter with international exposure. Her abstract paintings work to harmonize disparate elements, often combining collage, ink, pastel and pencil, which the artist feels harbor an essence of meaning rather than a direct theme. This feature allows the viewer to experience each work in their own way and to derive their own meanings or messages from the art.
