A painting of the river Rhine looking up stream at mid day. I captured this scene whilst travelling across the Rhine on a ferry. In the distance is Konigswinter and the Drachenfels. The poet Lord Byron described this scene in his epic poem '“Childe Harold's Pilgrimage”, - The castled crag of Drachenfels, Frowns o'er the wide and winding Rhine, Whose breast of waters broadly swells Between the banks which bear the vine, And hills all rich with blossom'd…
trees, And fields which promise corn and wine, And scatter'd cities crowning these, Whose far white walls along them shine. This poem inspired the artist Turner to visit the scene in 1817, and many other artists followed in their footsteps.
