Hunted until the middle of the 20th century, tiger populations declined sharply, from an estimated number of 100,000 individuals in 1900 to around 3,500 tigers, the majority living in India. Habitat reduction and poaching fueling traditional Chinese medicine are the main threats to the species.

Thierry Bisch is a French artist who has exhibited his paintings nationally, in Spain, Singapore, Belgium, and Monaco. For the last ten years, his sole artistic statement and purpose is to sound the alarm on the collapse of wildlife, on the sixth mass extinction that is in progress. Bisch's large-format compositions are created using oils and tempera. He leaves unfished aspects where only a charcoal line is visible, symbolizing the erasure of the subject.
