The polar bear is, along with the Kodiak bear, the largest of the terrestrial carnivores and it figures at the top of its food pyramid. It is a semi-aquatic mammal, whose survival depends as much on its hunts on ice floes as in water. Its life expectancy is 15 to 30 years.

Thierry Bisch is a French artist who has exhibited his paintings nationally, in Spain, Singapore, Belgium, and Monaco. For the last ten years, his sole artistic statement and purpose is to sound the alarm on the collapse of wildlife, on the sixth mass extinction that is in progress. Bisch's large-format compositions are created using oils and tempera. He leaves unfished aspects where only a charcoal line is visible, symbolizing the erasure of the subject.
