About this artwork
Like children's drawings, this work is populated by half-animal, half-human creatures that emerge from the depths of my unconscious. They arise as in a dream, or rather a kind of awakened meditation where reason does not always have its place.
Worked from very high quality Sennelier inks. The other paints are made in the workshop from pure pigments and a workshop recipe. Glazes in oil paint enhance the work of inks. The linen canvas is stapled to… a pine frame. A fastener on the back allows the hanging of the canvas which is signed on the back.

Thierry Virton is an experienced French painter who has exhibited his work nationally. He views painting as an extraordinary opportunity for emotional expression, and primarily draws on classical inspiration, though is also more recently influenced by neo-primitivist figuration and the Art Brut movement. His work is largely a representation of his own unconscious, saturated in intense colours and boasting a strong graphic quality.
