About this artwork
This "writing lesson" is one of the artist's oldest childhood memories.
Six years, school and the first pages of writing.
The mistress, an old woman, not at all affectionate, very strict, had whole pages of A written, whole pages of B and so on with all the letters. It was very difficult at age six, and by the mid-twentieth century students were writing with a quill and an inkwell.
The nibs were often dull and the ink ran everywhere except where… it should.
Of course, the professor was furious and we had to start the endless page again.
This period does not represent a real good memory.
The artist, dreamy and undisciplined, resented these endless rehearsals under duress.
It was only later that he understood and appreciated writing and reading, which allow him to apprehend the world with great freedom.
Paper thickness 1 millimeter.

Thierry Vobmann
France
« Sometimes, when I sleep, I dream a very precise vision of a work to paint. »
Thierry Vobmann is an experienced French painter and sculptor with international exposure. He almost exclusively composes abstract paintings, seeking to express everything we can't physically experience: sound, smell, warmth, feeling... that which is still noticeable even if invisible. Vobmann's finished works display an impressive balance of volume, texture and color.
