About this artwork
The inspiration in this case is art history. From Brueghel the Baptist to Vincent van Gogh, many painters throughout the ages have explored the genre of flower painting as a special form of still life. Furthermore, through the aesthetic depiction of flowers, I break the modernist dogma of ugliness.
Topics and concepts:
After the preliminary drawing, the traditional theme was first created using Abstract Expressionist techniques. In the second step,… the forms, especially the details, were developed with thin brushes.

Credentials
- Works on commission
Thomas Butzlaff is a painter and sculptor. He was born in West Germany and studied fine art at the University of Cologne. He combines traditional painting techniques with random processes, drawing on abstract expressionism to create surreal, colorful worlds in which figurative and abstract forms merge. His works oscillate between human representation and landscape, exploring fantastical realities and individual mythologies. He conveys a deep emotional resonance by combining visible matter with an invisible, energetic dimension to create a unique experience.
