About this artwork
This painting is part of a series of four. It chronicles the popular march that took place in Kaohsiung in 1979 and its consequences for the dissenting leaders. This first painting is a symbolic representation of the dictatorship imposed on the Taiwanese population by the government of the time, the repression it has shown to muzzle dissidents and prevent any popular protest. dictatorship, to reaffirm its historical reality and the consequences that it has had concretely on the daily life of the individuals. In front of this work, the spectator could almost feel the heaviness of the chain on his own shoulders. Its star shape and the central node formed by the crossing of the chains refers to the centralization of power around the oligarchy dictator.
