About this artwork
I’m overlaying the memories, so they combine to reflect what I’ve become. Working in theatre gave me a sense of spacial awareness. When I created sets on stage within a frame, I always thought of myself as an artist, rather than a theatre designer. Here, the images are held in a structure of stained glass, which I worked with when I first came to this part of France. Those same lines could be maps. They hint at a route through the memories, but maps…
can lead to disagreement. However fixed and precise they may appear to be, you’ve got to be able to read them. People in groups or in families interpret them differently, and misinterpret them.
