About this artwork
With her new series Hope, Tina Winkhaus enters the forest as an artistic space—an Arcadia that, since Giorgione and Poussin, has served as a projection surface for both utopian and lost states. Her large-format, digitally composed photographs unfold with painterly richness reminiscent of Rubens, while also carrying the symbolic depth of Arnold Böcklin.
At the center of these tableau vivant-like stagings are children—oscillating between innocence… and darkness, angelic grace and existential weight. The forest becomes a stage, an open-air chapel where memories, myths, and hopes intersect. Winkhaus’ images move between reality and dream, beauty and estrangement, inviting viewers into a multilayered world that makes both loss and hope palpable.
Tina Winkhaus, trained in rigorous analogue photography in Munich and now based in Berlin, seamlessly merges classical craft, digital collage, and her pioneering Analog-AI™ method. She painstakingly constructs large-scale, painterly photographic mosaics from thousands of her own images, blending historical influences with contemporary innovation and dramatic, chiaroscuro lighting. Her art immerses viewers in the paradoxes of beauty and vulnerability, offering seductive surfaces that reveal hidden fragility and melancholy beneath constructed ideals.
