About this artwork
Here was my first opportunity to paint a model who had a story in his face. Until this point, my subjects were in their 20's or 30's. Ken was an entertaining story teller at our local pub, and skilled craftsman, and he was available to pose for a portrait. I jumped at the opportunity, and explored his character over 4 weeks, with him posing for me in the studio everyday.
When completed, this image of an more interesting model than most struckj a… chord with my peers at the Florence Academy. Ken had almost full employment at the academy for the following few years, as he was sought after by students and teachers alike.
