Painting: Acrylic, Gesso, egg shells on Canvas.
This is one in a series of black and white paintings I've created over the last several years inspired by the work of american painter Franz Kline and the Chinese calligraphy painters.
The views should feel the space and expansiveness of these works. I choose the medium as it lends itself to space, texture and light.

Todd Monaghan
United States
« My work is about finding what exists in the accidental or random, finding inspiration in the dance, and celebration of the practice. This is my making process. »
Todd Monaghan explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind through 'flicking, spilling, dripping, and scraping' paint into multi-layered, textural, and immersive works. The American painter and sculptor's pieces are created through impulsive movements that welcome chance and experimentation. Monaghan does not paint using an easel, instead preferring to pin his canvases to the walls of his studio. He places them on the floor and back onto the walls, searching for new discoveries every time.
