This painting, a large cardboard piece that was used as the floor workspace for Monaghan's time making the Rehoboth Residency works, is perhaps the best work from that series. The piece morphed into a full representation of Monaghan's "alienation of tm" that is one of his most recognized images. Todd Monaghan explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind through 'flicking, spilling, dripping, and scraping' paint into multi-layered, textural, and immersive works. The American painter and sculptor's pieces are created through impulsive movements that welcome chance and experimentation. Monaghan does not paint using an easel, instead preferring to pin his canvases to the walls of his studio. He places them on the floor and back onto the walls, searching for new discoveries every time.
