Boy, painted by Monaghan early in 1998 was created early in his time in New York City. It is one of the earliest of his canvas pieces. Looking into the piece you will see the face of a boy his third eye floating out above and away from his face in the form of a Sun. You will also see several other faces, that of an old man, his elder and or father. This piece is a celebration of fatherhood of which Monaghan is three times over, he has three…

« My work is about finding what exists in the accidental or random, finding inspiration in the dance, and celebration of the practice. This is my making process. »
Todd Monaghan explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind through 'flicking, spilling, dripping, and scraping' paint into multi-layered, textural, and immersive works. The American painter and sculptor's pieces are created through impulsive movements that welcome chance and experimentation. Monaghan does not paint using an easel, instead preferring to pin his canvases to the walls of his studio. He places them on the floor and back onto the walls, searching for new discoveries every time.
