About this artwork
Heavy Metal, a continuation of my black and white series, explores movement, texture and light with the use of egg shell. Made as action art, these pieces focus on space, broad bold marks and light. This particular piece is very similar to a Rorschach in that is appears to be symmetrical top to bottom.

Todd Monaghan explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind through 'flicking, spilling, dripping, and scraping' paint into multi-layered, textural, and immersive works. The American painter and sculptor's pieces are created through impulsive movements that welcome chance and experimentation. Monaghan does not paint using an easel, instead preferring to pin his canvases to the walls of his studio. He places them on the floor and back onto the walls, searching for new discoveries every time.
