About this artwork
Todd Monaghan, 2022, 30"/26"/1", gesso, acrylic, oil pastel and egg shell on canvas. The second (sister painting) of this size in the recent Bear River Collection. This series was inspired by Monaghan's trips to Salt Lake City, Utah with his brother to the Bear River Nature Reserve.

Todd Monaghan explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind through 'flicking, spilling, dripping, and scraping' paint into multi-layered, textural, and immersive works. The American painter and sculptor's pieces are created through impulsive movements that welcome chance and experimentation. Monaghan does not paint using an easel, instead preferring to pin his canvases to the walls of his studio. He places them on the floor and back onto the walls, searching for new discoveries every time.
