Monke', painted by Monaghan in 2005, is somewhere between an abstraction and a spiritual realistic piece. Looking into the piece you will see the various familiar faces and characters that animate Monaghan's work. Ruled by mostly earth tones and textured with his familiar use of egg shells, the piece as a very earthy grounding feel.

Todd Monaghan
United States
« My work is about finding what exists in the accidental or random, finding inspiration in the dance, and celebration of the practice. This is my making process. »
Todd Monaghan explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind through 'flicking, spilling, dripping, and scraping' paint into multi-layered, textural, and immersive works. The American painter and sculptor's pieces are created through impulsive movements that welcome chance and experimentation. Monaghan does not paint using an easel, instead preferring to pin his canvases to the walls of his studio. He places them on the floor and back onto the walls, searching for new discoveries every time.
