Pillar 2 was the second of 3 small white pillars Monaghan created while in Sunset Beach, North Carolina in 2020 while building a roof over for his then partner's vintage beach trailer. This piece was created with discarded pieces of 2x4's. The pieces are sealed with house paint and then draw on with marker and sealed with polyurethane. Various characters and spheres animate the piece giving it a celestial universal vibe.

« My work is about finding what exists in the accidental or random, finding inspiration in the dance, and celebration of the practice. This is my making process. »
Todd Monaghan explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind through 'flicking, spilling, dripping, and scraping' paint into multi-layered, textural, and immersive works. The American painter and sculptor's pieces are created through impulsive movements that welcome chance and experimentation. Monaghan does not paint using an easel, instead preferring to pin his canvases to the walls of his studio. He places them on the floor and back onto the walls, searching for new discoveries every time.
