About this artwork
Space Dust, part of Monaghan's Rehoboth Beach Residency collection, was created from a repurposed canvas. This piece is a reminder that we are all nothing more then "space dust" and in that one and the same with all things in the universe. A continuation of Monaghan's black and white series, this piece explores what Monaghan refers to as the seen and unseen universe. Those orbs and particles that flow and exist between and in all of us and all…
things.

« My work is about finding what exists in the accidental or random, finding inspiration in the dance, and celebration of the practice. This is my making process. »
Todd Monaghan explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind through 'flicking, spilling, dripping, and scraping' paint into multi-layered, textural, and immersive works. The American painter and sculptor's pieces are created through impulsive movements that welcome chance and experimentation. Monaghan does not paint using an easel, instead preferring to pin his canvases to the walls of his studio. He places them on the floor and back onto the walls, searching for new discoveries every time.
