Sunshine After the Storm was painted after a painful breakup. It was something that a friend mentioned to Monaghan that resonated with him. No matter how bad things get, there is always sunshine after the storm. If you look into the middle of th painting you will find a lifeguard chair. east coast sunrise. Within the piece you will see various spirits (i.e. faces and characters interacting with one another and the viewer.) The texture in the work is created with egg shell. This is the first color piece for Monaghan since embarking on his black and white series. It has the same "feel" as the black and white series only colorized to an extent. This piece, painted with acrylic, gesso and egg shells, is the sunrise over a beach after a terrible storm.

Todd Monaghan explores spontaneous intuition and the subconscious mind through 'flicking, spilling, dripping, and scraping' paint into multi-layered, textural, and immersive works. The American painter and sculptor's pieces are created through impulsive movements that welcome chance and experimentation. Monaghan does not paint using an easel, instead preferring to pin his canvases to the walls of his studio. He places them on the floor and back onto the walls, searching for new discoveries every time.
