About this artwork
I've been asked if it ever stops raining in my world and given the number of wet cityscapes I've painted over the last couple of years you'd be forgiven for asking. While the sun certainly breaks through the clouds from time to time I find these urban scenes endlessly fascinating to paint. A simple raindrop can act as distorted lens that picks up the colours and shapes around it. A street light in the distance appears as a bright but blurred focal…
point that is reflected in the surface of a wet street on a dark night. Painting these scenes with its intense focus on detail has changed the way I see, on a recent night out I saw the city afresh and appreciated all the subtle details that I might have otherwise missed.
