About this artwork
"Shadow Self" addresses the topic of the subconscious, the unconscious.
In the course of every life, people acquire wounds of varying depth. Wounds become scars and scars fade over time. Some pain is buried to avoid further suffering. Unpleasant topics remain hidden and become "shadows" that can change a person's behavior.
At some point these issues will come to the surface again when the time has come for their release. (e.g. unresolved childhood… issues, fears, worries, etc.)
I wanted to show a beautiful beach landscape so that it stands in stark contrast to the black portal from which a demon (trauma) emerges. Because no matter how beautiful life may seem on the surface, without honest reflection, our shadow issues can sometimes overwhelm us.
